AIDS Coalition of Cape Breton (ACCB) Date of Walk: Friday, September 17, 2010 Start Location: Sydney Boardwalk Important Times: 5:00 pm - Registration 6:00 pm - Walk begins The AIDS Coalition of Cape Breton is looking for teams and individuals to sign up and walk for life in support of local programs and services for people living with HIV/AIDS in Cape Breton. Also if you would like to volunteer to help out on the day of The walk please contact Caleigh Rolls. “All the money raised stays right here in Cape Breton. The money we raise helps people get transportation to Halifax, helps support them with services and generally helps alleviate the burden of living with the disease.” On-site registration is at 5 p.m. on the Sydney boardwalk behind the civic centre, Friday, with music and entertainment provided, and the walk starts at 6 p.m. The route follows the waterfront to Dorchester, Charlotte and Townsend streets and returns to the boardwalk. The Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life is Canada’s most important national fundraiser and awareness event. About 58,000 people live with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome or the Human Immunodeficiency Virus that causes AIDS. The walk, which began over a decade ago, helps local organizations raise funds across the country. The AIDS Coalition of Cape Breton offers programs and services to Cape Bretoner's affected by the disease, advocates on their behalf and provides education and strategies to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.
